HVAC Design Engineer 3
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. We are seeking a Mechanical Facilities Design Engineer 3 to work with The Engineering Services division to provide innovative engineering solutions that support LANL’s scientific and national security projects and mentor junior engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Assess, maintain and upgrade existing engineering facilities and projects
- Scope and design new engineering projects and review the projects of junior engineers
- Design package production experience in commercial, industrial, HVAC and plumbing and/or systems infrastructure
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 6+ years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and standards, preparing calculations, applying engineering methods and technology and utilizing engineering tools
- Experience scoping projects and determining engineering effort
- Experience supporting construction execution, including timely reviews, requests for information, design change and validation of commissioning documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and show commitment to a team
- Experience mentoring and leading junior engineers
- Problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to manage and communicate workload and tasks
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced engineering or technical degree
- Design engineer qualification at a DOE or federal facility
- Knowledge of DOE Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures
- Current NCEES Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering (any US State)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a hybrid-remote environment
