The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical control systems for custom industrial deburring, parts washing, metal finishing machines and panel building equipment. In this position you will work on multiple equipment projects and be responsible for the electrical related aspects of each project, from design to installation and commissioning.

We use SolidWorks and SolidWorks Electrical software to model various electrical components, enclosures, panel layouts and wiring schematics as needed for new designs and re-design of existing machines. Our Controls Engineer will work with various customer-submitted industrial equipment specifications as they relate to the electrical portion of the equipment order, write programmable logic controller (PLC) programs along with programs for operator touch screens that are used in the machines, inspect the electrical portion of used equipment that is returned for rebuild, confer with vendors and work with purchasing to specify electrical components needed for projects, and work with customers during equipment build and commissioning. You may have the opportunity to travel (domestically and internationally) in order to troubleshoot and service equipment in the field.

Note: This position has the flexibility to work remotely with an estimated 20% travel to our Albert Lea, MN facility.

Essential Functions:

· Serve as a mentor to engineering and manufacturing team members assisting them with the design, panel building, PLC configuration and other areas of expertise.

· Design functional electrical systems to meet customer specifications through the development and testing of various components.

· Utilizes SolidWorks and other computer aided design techniques to perform design work. Uses SolidWorks Electrical to create and modify electrical schematics.

· Develop new PLC and HMI programs from scratch as required for equipment built for customer orders.

· Conduct detailed research of electrical equipment and systems and report findings.

· Develop various testing methods and properties to confirm the functionality of components and systems.

· Communicate engineering information with various stakeholders to facilitate successful completion of projects.

· Performs a variety of engineering calculations using algebraic, trigonometric, and geometric formulas.

· Use standard product engineering data for the development of product configurations.

· Inspect equipment installations and observe operations to ensure compliance with design and equipment specifications ensuring all safety standards are met.

· Participate in experimental manufacture and testing of finished product.

. Requirements:

· A degree in engineering, electrical engineering technology, design/drafting, controls, or related field.

· A minimum of 3 years' experience utilizing SolidWorks as a design program.

· Extensive work experience in programming and troubleshooting of PLC's (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and others) and operator touch screens.

· Previous experience in panel design required, with previous experience with panel building preferred.

· Experience with three-phase industrial electrical system design and a general working knowledge of industrial machinery is required.

· Excellent computer skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

· Ability to analyze problems and select proper corrective action.

· Excellent written and verbal communications.

· Ability to organize tasks and work independently.

· Previous experience mentoring preferred.
