The Boston, MA design center of Kleinfelder is seeking a Principal Architect with a minimum of 15 years' experience to lead our team.   The role is creative, flexible, challenging, and offers a unique career opportunity for a skilled and motivated Registered Architect with strong verbal and written skills.  An understanding of digital design tools is useful to undertake regular interaction with our staff, subconsultants, and clients.   

The leader will be responsible for leadership in all areas of practice including: design and technical excellence, manpower resources and mentoring, selection of consultant teams, support and/or spearhead architecture business development including interviews, proposals, and fee development.

The role will report to the New England Area Manager and will occasionally connect with Kleinfelder offices throughout the US as well as support a variety of projects in the areas of architecture, planning, feasibility, condition studies, historic buildings, and input into a wide array of transportation, justice, convention, and assorted public and private sector work. The firm is a pioneer in sustainable design to help address the myriad impacts of climate change.

The candidate must have the ability to effectively support the design of other architects and engineers in a collaborative manner.  The ideal candidate will have qualifications and demonstrable skills in: 

  • Supporting new and expanding business development 
  • Public sector building design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent, self-starting professional
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

B. Arch. and/or M. Arch. with a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.  Professional registration is required in MA and ability to become registered in multiple states.  NCARB membership will be helpful.

Projects may be in the Transportation, Higher Education, Municipal, State and Federal markets of Kleinfelder's practice.
