The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) has an extraordinary opportunity for a proven professional to serve in a Senior Executive Level position as the District Administrator for the Northern Virginia District.  As the District Administrator, you will provide leadership, vision and direction to VDOT’s Northern Virginia District. The selected Leader will manage the full scope of a large-scale transportation construction and maintenance programs.

As an engineering focused organization, you leadership will play a critical role in building partnerships with various levels of government, elected officials, non-profits and private sector groups, the media and employees to ensure that transportation programs support current and future needs of the travelling public.

This position is based in Fairfax, Virginia. You will provide leadership and oversight to over 850 employees serving the Commonwealth in 4 Residency Offices and 18 Area Headquarters spread throughout four counties, nine cities and towns within the region. The district is responsible for approximately 14,000 lane miles of roadway, making it one of largest roadway networks for a VDOT District in the  Commonwealth. Competitive candidates will be a leader with the ability to drive change and solutions toward addressing transportation challenges and opportunities.

Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to lead and manage the performance of employees while inspiring vision and motivation in the delivery of services and projects on time and on budget. Candidates are expected to have the strongest emphasis of safety, security and environmental stewardship.
