This is great growth opportunity to be part of an iconic DC area project for someone with 5-plus years of field experience installing communication systems. The Communications Construction Engineer will manage the subcontracted design and buildout of the communications system, including:

  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • Radio System
  • Telephone System
  • Wi-Fi/Wi-Max for LRT Operations
  • Stations communications systems, including: Passenger Information Systems (PIS) and Variable Message Signs (VMS)
  • Headend communications system, including Operations Control Center(s) to support Train operations
  • Fire and Security Systems, Control and Monitoring, Fare Collection, Train to Wayside Communications


·      Primary contract performance management, including:

  • Compliance with Project Safety Plan
  • Compliance with Project Quality Plan
  • Completion of scope of work through demonstration of requirements verification and validation
  • Management of cost to budget, including active tracking of progress and potential changes
  • Schedule performance for subcontracted scope in comparison to Project CPM
  • Progressing Monthly Progress Payments
  • Forecasting
  • Coordinate with design and installation of other project elements, including with personnel within the three area management teams to ensure subcontractor is prepared to perform scope of work timely and in proper sequence;
  • Coordinate closely with the System Design Manager and System Integration Manager and provide expertise in development and execution of project test program plan;
  • Review and comment on work plans and hazard analysis to ensure Project conformance;
  • Management of submittals including, technical reviews for conformance with project requirements, coordinating with appropriate AHJ’s and Responsible Engineer when required;

  • Ensure that all testing, commissioning and acceptance of the system and equipment meets all Contract standards

  • Proactively identify and resolve project issues as they relate to scope, schedule and budget controls, and;


  • BS in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering or Construction Management
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in similar role/capacity
  • Understands communications systems associated with transit systems
  • Rail and transit experience required
  • Familiar with Primavera P6 (or equivalent) scheduling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
