Assistant Vice President – Planning, Design & Construction

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a research university and academic health center that discovers, teaches and applies knowledge for the intellectual, cultural, social and economic benefit of Birmingham, the state and beyond. The Assistant VP role is responsible for governing all planning, design and construction for non-hospital buildings. This involves managing the development of the physical UAB campus grounds, landscape, infrastructure and buildings; establishing and managing guidelines and standards for the architectural character and image of the University; planning and managing ongoing and future development as part of the Campus master plan; and managing the development of programs, feasibility studies, budgets, schedules and funding sources for capital projects and preparing submittal packages for briefings to the Board of Trustees for approval. Position is responsible for the overall guidance of construction and renovation project deliverables, including managing the selection of contractors or sub-contractors and negotiating consultant contracts for capital projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Landscape Architecture, City/Urban/Campus Planning or a related field and 12 years of related experience; work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
  • Valid US driver’s license and MVR in good standing
  • MS Office proficiency
  • PE licensure or Registered Architect/Landscape Architect by State of Alabama Board, registration by the American Institute of Certified Planners, or eligibility for registration with one of these entities
