Summary/Objective The Employee Relations Counsel is responsible for managing a range of activities related to legal employee/labor relations and compliance functions. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Effectively provide explanation of employee regulations and policies Train HR Managers nationwide on Employee Relations matters from a legal advisory standpoint Prepare and manage internal workforce regulations Provide legal assistance in employee-related legal matters and employee disputes Manage regulations, manuals, and handbooks that define employee relations and policies in the US in conjunction with counterpart in Spain Mitigate organization’s legal and compliance risks Conduct HR audits and ensure HR Compliance in the following areas: Employment Law, Wages and Benefits, Discrimination and Harassment, Workplace Privacy, Hiring and Termination Practices, Leave Laws, and Workplace Safety Work with Compliance Officer to promote and administer current compliance program across the organization’s operations Work with various departments, assisting line managers to understand and implement policies and procedures pertaining to labor law Interpret and advise on employment law Work with outside council in reviewing and implementing changes to employee handbooks Draft and/or revise various documents of legal nature, ensuring in particular that obligations stemming from legislation and regulations currently in force are in compliance Work with General Counsel in relation to any labor or employment law subject Ensure FLSA classification compliance and compliance with all state and federal discrimination and employment regulations. Support various legal projects (e.g., review risk policies) Other duties as assigned Competencies Business Acumen. Communication. Consultation. Critical Evaluation. Ethical Practice. Supervisory Responsibility This position does not have direct management or supervisory responsibility of employees. Work Environment This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and/or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel No travel is expected for this position other than occasional travel to corporate sites regarding employee relations issues or training HRs on legal employee matters. Required Education and Experience Juris Doctor (JD) degree, preferably with a concentration or emphasis in Employment/Labor Law Three to seven years of related previous experience Subject matter expertise with employment / labor relations law Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements. Preferred Education and Experience Knowledge of immigration laws and processes. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential.
