Piping/Industrial Estimator

Summary/Objective:

The Industrial/Piping Estimator will be responsible for providing complete estimates for bids on projects assigned by the Estimating Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews all construction documents including instructions to bidders, scope of work and general conditions
  • Solicits subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work
  • Distributes plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website and/or email
  • Assists in development of bid strategies
  • Participates in pre-bid meetings and site visits which may result in travel time on occasion
  • Reviews all take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work
  • Reviews in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications
  • Develops rough draft scope of work for proposals
  • Assists in negotiating subcontracts and procurement of materials and equipment
  • Enters estimate into job cost control program and participates in turnover/transition meetings with the operations team
  • Works as part of a team and coordinates scope of work between in-house trades (Steel, Sheet Metal, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Mechanical Construction; or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferably in a construction environment)
  • 2+ years’ Estimating and/or Pre-Construction experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and efficiency in computer/network based estimating software (i.e. Autobid, Quote Soft, TSI, Estimation, etc.)
  • Solid and thorough understanding of process P&ID drawings and flow diagrams
  • General understanding of ASME/ANSI Codes 31.1, 31.3, and 31.9
  • Understanding and capability of taking off associated plumbing systems
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel
  • Knowledge of means and methods of construction for the industrial piping trades including shop fabrication
  • Experience in providing budgets, estimates, construction schedules, and manpower projections
  • Must be able to meet critical deadlines
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available to work assigned schedules on an as needed basis
