Civil Estimator

Provide and/or coordinate full estimating services on all types of contracts including heavy/highway, site civil and structural work.

Assigned Responsibilities

-         Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

-         Provide complete detailed estimates for concrete work, structures, earthwork, piling, etc.

-         Provide technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.

-         Insure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.

-         Track awarded contracts as required

-         Review and incorporate historical data from subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man hour figures.

-         Maintain subcontractor data base and develop positive relationships with subcontractors

-         Other duties as assigned

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-         Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, plus ability to coordinate and lead an estimate.

-         Ability to take-off and price concrete for structures and highway projects.

-         Ability to take-off and price complex earthwork projects.

-         Comfortable working phones and discussing detailed scopes with subcontractors.

-         Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

-         Understands and knows how to use spreadsheets.

-         Excellent analytical skills.

-         Ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous projects.

-         Flexibility and tolerance for constantly changing demands.

-         Thoroughness and detail oriented.

-         Must have a good command of the English language, both written and verbal.

-         Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal.

-         Must be able to comprehend an extensive variety of instructions, both oral and written.

-         Strong leadership and team player skills.

-         Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

-         Proficient with HCSS

Education and Training

-         4 year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and/or related experience required.

-         10 years estimating and/or engineering experience in a heavy or highway construction environment.
