The Plant Estimator develops and implements all department standards and procedures, responsible for preparation and review of all estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness.

 

Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to:

  • Plans, coordinates and directs a major estimating function including administering operating budgets, staffing, work assignments, salary and performance reviews, etc.
  • Quantify project components
  • Read/review plans, proposals, specifications, RFP’s, and any other pertinent project related documents necessary to develop a competent and competitive bid proposal
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs for bids.
  • Visit project to understand site conditions/restrictions
  • Actively communicate with subcontractors and vendors to facilitate quotes and ensure project’s minority goals are met or exceeded
  • Prepare estimates using HCSS Heavybid software
  • Prepare reports and analysis pertinent to estimating as requested by management
  • Perform risk analysis
  • Review bids with Plant Manager
  • Prepare and submit proposals to owners and follow up with any post-bid requirements
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all customers and partners in their region
  • Understand and stay current on market demand and bid prices
  • Must be able to multitask and handle several jobs, bids and contracts simultaneously
  • Coordinates District Wide Estimating Schedule with estimating staff.
  • Maintain various bid data for analysis.
  • And other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Estimator
  • HCSS experience strongly preferred
  • JD Edwards experience strongly preferred
  • Site work, DOT, asphalt paving, earthwork, and airport experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Hot Mix production and mix designs
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Digitizer and/or online takeoff experience preferred
