Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for the anticipated position of (Senior Engineer with the Architectural/ Engineering Services Department. This position is a full-time, 12-month civil service position. The Seniorl Engineer is responsible for highly technical, professional mechanical engineering services which include major planning and development for repair, modification, and replacement of the University’s mechanical systems, utility distribution networks, building plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, equipment, controls, and building automation systems.

The individual in this position works in association with other architectural and engineering staff in the department where multiple disciplines are required for completion of assignments. The individual in this position in consultation with the Director of A/E Services will determine work priorities and methods. This position requires a knowledge and working capability in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Autodesk Revit (Building Information Modeling), AutoCad2018, (Computer Aided Drawing, Adobe Acrobat Pro, building energy modeling programs and other computer aided drawing/analysis programs. The individual will also serve as lead for energy management which will include involvement in analyzing consumption and peak demands, developing campus wide strategies for improving efficiencies, energy conservation and short/long term utility purchasing strategies.

Position Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an approved college of engineering in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering as required by the position to be filled in the area of specialization inherent in the position may be required
  2. Certificate of registration as a Registered Professional Engineer from the Illinois Department of Registration and Education

**Applicants possessing a Master’s degree, in a closely related field, meet the requirements of #1 above.
