SUMMARY:

Pulice Construction, Inc. is a heavy civil contractor working in the Southwest United States with permanent offices in Phoenix, Houston and San Diego.  The Director of EHS position is a senior management role located in the corporate office in Phoenix reporting to the President.  This position will be responsible for the administration and management of the company's Safety programs in accordance with federal and local laws and regulations; serves to prevent, minimize and correct accident and injuries, as well as addressing safety problems as they affect the corporation.  The role oversees a dedicated staff in Phoenix as well as coordination of additional safety staff in the regional offices. 
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative and technical direction and provide updates on all Corporate safety and health programs, procedures and policies
  • Lead in accident investigations, facilitate communication of accident investigation findings to all levels of company.  Perform periodic jobsite inspections and prepare reports
  • Review all safety documentation/reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure all required documents are forwarded to federal and state agencies per regulations and to company insurance carrier per their requirements
  • Prepare safety related input for bid proposals
  • Organize and implement safety programs for new projects including safety incentive programs and post-accident alcohol and drug testing
  • Implement EHS training programs for employees and supervisors
  • Develop and maintaining EHS databases
  • Maintain and administer Drug /Alcohol programs both mandated and non-mandated
  • Maintain and administer all DOT/FMCSA programs
  • Analyzes injury, illness and accident reports to assess safety program effectiveness
  • Manage claims process and work to strategically reduce future claim exposure through proactive measures.  Assist in estimating appropriate reserves for each claim.  Providing information as needed for litigation or settlement negotiations
  • Communicate, interview and establish medical provider network to develop and authorize appropriate treatment plans

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or similar preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years experience in construction safety management on transportation, water, and wastewater type projects.Mining/industrial experience is a plus.

  • Expert knowledge of construction safety, current Federal, State and FMCSA requirements, experience with OSHA required and MSHA is a plus.

  • Experience with compliance with ISO14001 and OSHAS18000 a plus.

  • Proven leadership and management capabilities.Excellent communication and presentation skills to a wide range of audiences both written and verbal.

  • CHST certification desired, CSP certification preferred

  • Experience with claims management including workers compensation.

  • Familiarity of all aspects of horizontal and infrastructure projects

  • Well organized, flexible, detail oriented and ability to multi-task

  • Prioritize work load and consistently meet deadlines while constantly changing tasks and demands

  • Travel required - 50%
