Job Description:

The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for an assistant professor in the area of architecture. The successful candidate will deliver courses at the undergraduate level that inspire majors in the following areas of study—Materials and Methods, Environmental Technology, Architectural Structures and Architectural Design; conduct scholarly research, service and teach at UCF; interact with the community of practicing architects in Central Florida; collaborate with colleagues from Valencia College, the University of Florida and other partners; and maintain regular office hours.

The position is a nine-month, full-time, tenure-earning position, teaching a three-course load per semester. UCF supports and rewards teaching excellence. Faculty are expected to participate in department and university service including committee work. UCF offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Design degree in Architecture. The School of Visual Arts and Design has approximately 2,700 majors across four areas that include architecture, digital media, film, and studio arts. The anticipated start date is August 2018.

Position Minimum Qualifications:

Master of architecture degree from an accredited institution. Evidence of competence with a relevant range of materials, equipment and technologies and effective communication skills.


Architectural licensure. Resourceful, collaborative, versatile thinker/producer with an emphasis on developing and teaching technical courses (listed above), Architectural Design, and demonstrated teaching experience at an institution of higher education. The ability to use multiple media, use digital-to-hand modeling and drawing, and facilitate hands-on architectural lessons. An interest in forming partnerships with industry and within academia and a record of diverse and distinctive scholarly work in addition to an interest in student recruitment/retention, grant writing, and designing or delivering mixed-mode and online courses are also highly valued attributes.

The work location is on the West Valencia Campus.
