Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of Infrastructure and Development, the Vice President of Design, Code and Construction (DCC) will be a proven strategic leader who will lead the DCC department in the efficient and economical design and construction of all major facility development projects at the airport within established schedule and budget parameters. In addition, the VP will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of investment in the execution of the airport’s strategic plan and leadership competencies to ensure that the workforce is engaged, productive, healthy, inclusive and diverse.

To be successful in this role, you will need a deep understanding of leadership and a high level of strategic thinking while directing a multi-discipline team consisting of both airport board employees and external consulting firms in the administration, design, construction, commissioning and closeout of projects to fulfill the airport master plan. Using your knowledge of the aviation industry, public and private financing, construction and maintenance of major engineering projects, you will drive the planning, programming and development of strategies to manage and administer the design and construction of facilities in fulfillment of the airport master plan. You will also interface and coordinate with other airport departments (Planning, Commercial Development, Finance and others) to provide regular updates, enhance the customer experience, and minimize impact to airport operations. While having code jurisdiction over the airport, you will ultimately be responsible for permit issuance, code inspections and certificates of occupancy as well.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in the design and/or construction of large airport/airline projects
  • Six (6) years experience in management or supervisory role
  •  Five (5) years of experience in management role of large airport projects
  • Texas registration as Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer (or ability to secure through reciprocity within six months of employment)
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license
  • Experience in large scale planning management and trend projections
  • Aviation industry knowledge including laws, rules and regulations governing air transportation, airport development, design and construction, and operation
  • Knowledge of public and private financing for aviation and non-aviation projects, laws and regulations governing public bidding on local, state, and federal levels, contract negotiation, project control, principles of scheduling, contracting, estimating and claims avoidance
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the planning, location, design, construction and maintenance of major engineering projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations applicable to airport operations
  • Mentor others to enhance performance, and create a culture of feedback, communication, continuous improvement and personal effectiveness in each role
