Director of Engineering

NYC Parks is a design award-winning city agency that builds and cares for public spaces for New Yorkers to connect, play and enjoy.  These public spaces, encompassing over 5,000 properties and 14% of the city’s land and coastline, include seawalls and waterfronts, pedestrian bridges, beaches and boardwalks, parks and playgrounds, historic houses, recreation centers and pools and spray showers.

With a dedicated team of more than 30 engineers, the Director of Engineering is a leadership position at NYC Parks responsible for designing and tackling engineering solutions for these beloved public spaces and structures. The work of this unit impacts neighborhood growth, public health, local commerce and sustainability initiatives throughout the five boroughs of New York City.  The portfolio of engineering projects is fascinating and unparalleled.  The setting for these projects is on the main stage of the world's most renowned Park system and City.

The successful candidate is a natural leader and go-getter with a deep understanding of engineering work—someone who enjoys rolling up his/her sleeves to tackle projects and gets satisfaction by making things work better. The ideal candidate would find the diversity of engineering challenges fun and thrives in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate is collaborative in style and has the ability to bring technical people together to leverage creativity and productivity for a common goal, and then be able to translate that knowledge to other project stakeholders, e.g., landscape architects, architects, contractors, community groups and elected officials.

NYC Parks offers competitive pay and a generous benefits package, including pension, excellent health benefits, competitive vacation/sick days and a work-life balance.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.  www.nyc.gov/parks

• Establish and implement engineering design standards for Parks facilities and equipment. Ensure all engineering design solutions result in code compliant, efficiently constructed and maintainable systems. When directed, serve as engineer of record for documents prepared by staff engineers.

• Collaborate with and support other units within the Capital Division, including Landscape Architecture, Architecture and the construction oversight units. Work with various agency stakeholders and effectively represent Parks at external meetings and reviews.
