Senior Vice President of Construction, Design and Facilities

The Role: The Senior Vice President of Construction, Design, and Facilities provides recommendations for strategic planning, general management, and professional direction for system-wide strategic space planning, and capital planning, as well as construction project management and system-wide facilities support. S/He provides effective leadership, including team building, knowledge, and expertise, to sustain and support Northwell’s Culture of Care and to deliver patient-focused services and solutions. We seek a leader who has a track record of building constituencies, providing transparency, improving process efficiencies, and actively implements modern construction delivery techniques.  The successful candidate should have experience with multiple capital project delivery methods as well as labor negotiations.

The successful candidate will work closely with the CFO, COO, and Regional/ Corporate Executives to develop a system-based vision and strategy that achieves multi-year and annual objectives. S/He will lead the next chapter in building an excellent and efficient team with a strong service orientation, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated success working effectively with senior leadership and a broad range of other internal and external constituents.

Position Summary: Senior Vice President of Construction, Design, and Facilities leads and provides coordination and administrative oversight across Northwell Health System. S/He will develop and maintain a position of industry leadership around the patient experience in design and construction while controlling costs, controls, and quality. He/She provides leadership and guidance to achieve greater energy efficiencies in all facilities operations, directs efforts to attain increasingly high conformance to LEED standards, and promotes responsible and productive sustainability/green focused efforts in all facilities' activities. This role interfaces with executive senior leadership and front-line team members, executes organizational development strategy, and drives change initiatives across the system in order to optimize organizational potential and achieve strategic and operational objectives. S/He will partner with senior executives to evaluate and execute internal and external strategic partnerships in alignment with the aforementioned goals.

Candidate Profile: The new Senior Vice President of Construction, Design and Facilities will possess the following qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Relative experience in a large, complex healthcare setting strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years progressively responsible senior management experience in a related field, required.
  • Knowledge of financial forecasting and budgeting large- scale projects.
  • A proven leader that is able to recruit, develop, and mentor a top-notch team capable of supporting future growth.
  • Must possess knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes.
  • Extensive experience designing organizational structures that align with organizational business and operational results.
  • Strong history of building positive and cooperative relationships with senior leaders and possesses an ability to influence and negotiate within a highly matrixed, large, and complex organization.
  • Ability to respond effectively to elements that drive competitive advantage under dynamic conditions, such as healthcare industry changes, competitor actions, and technological trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collegial relationships with peers, faculty, departmental staff, hospital administration, representatives of outside organizations, and community stakeholders.
