North Texas Municipal Water District is seeking a Deputy Director (Engineering & CIP) to lead and manage a construction program that will exceed $500,000,000 annually over the next 4 years.  The successful candidate will be results driven, team oriented and capable of leading a large team of high achievers across all areas of Engineering and Construction Management and will play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely completion of all projects.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Oversees all aspects of the Engineering and CIP Divisions to ensure the efficient operation of each department and the organization in whole.
  • Implement project management practices and procedures on time to achieve cost and schedule goals.
  • Assists the Executive Director / General Manager in the development of strategic plans to support the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with all departments within the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to support organizational initiatives and recommend the development of programs to promote these activities.
  • Provide leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values of NTMWD are practiced.
  • Act as a change agent constantly looking for improvements and progress within and outside the engineering teams and processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:

  • Must have strong understanding of engineering concepts and project management, ideally in the area of Public Utilities.
  • Ability to manage changes throughout reporting departments.
  • Ability to apply sound administrative and financial management practices.
  • Ability to speak effectively before audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively with Board of Directors through the Executive Director with an eye towards political sensitivity.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of all facets of water resources development, water treatment and transmission, wastewater treatment and conveyance, solid waste management, as well as exposure to political/legislative activities.
  • Must possess the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Must possess the ability to delegate work assignments, give authority to work independently, set expectations and monitor delegated activities.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Master degree, professional engineer certified and/or a certified Project Manager preferred.
  • Extensive background in management practices and organizational behavior.
